Hormonal milestones & your skin

As a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist, I have witnessed and treated the many hormonal milestones a woman experiences throughout her life span.

For some, menopause may be an uncertain or even unwelcome event because of the inevitable physical, and sometimes emotional, changes it brings. Diminished hormone levels impact each woman differently, and I have taken a particular interest in helping post-menopausal patients successfully navigate these new waters.

Unfortunately, the beneficial effects of hormones on our skin recede as their levels decrease during and after menopause. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone naturally work together to ensure healthy skin. Estrogen helps decrease breakdown of collagen, improves blood flow, and promotes skin thickness; Progesterone significantly increases elastin, and skin firmness; and recent research demonstrates the increasing importance of testosterone in maintaining collagen production, which in turn thickens and improves skin integrity.

As we age, our biological systems slow, skin becomes thinner, there is a decrease of volume and wrinkles become more evident.  Just pinch the loose skin on the back of your hand and notice that it takes longer to bounce back than it did a decade ago. The diminished estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels result in this loss of elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid – the naturally occurring sugar in our skins that holds in water to keep it hydrated and plumped.

Sapelo Skin Care is based on our body’s innate ability to heal itself. Aging skin loses its resiliency to respond to the cumulative effects of sun damage and decreased hormone levels. Sapelo provides a natural skin rejuvenation and repair by simulating collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and skin cell production. Essential, locally sourced compounds, coupled with over thirty years of cosmetic science, effectively replicate skin cell renewal to reverse decades of skin damage and the aging process.

If you seek a more natural anti-aging routine, I recommend you make an informed decision based on the science behind Sapelo Skin Care’s simple three-step system. Hydrated, dewy skin can be achieved through regular use of the high-quality ingredients which increase cell production and eliminate the appearance of fine lines. Quite simply, Sapelo is the gentle, natural path to renew your complexion’s radiance and hydration.
